My Top Amazon Finds for Musicians - Flute

I've been involved in activities regarding music since as far back as I can remember. Even so, one thing I didn't prioritize when I was younger was the cleanliness of my instruments - It was only when I started to think about having a permanent career in music that I realized that a thorough cleaning after each use, like most other objects, saves a lot of money in the long run. As a current college flutist, I now clean my flute and piccolo at least once a day - because of this, some generic cleaning kits don't live up to the standards I need to keep my flute from having to get fixed in a shop. This is why I've made a short list of flute-specific cleaning products that are very simple/easy to use, reliable, and fit very nicely in my cases. Here are my 4 favorite Amazon products that I use every day as a professional musician.

  1. Altieri Cleaning Wands

This absorbent cleaning swab is easily machine-washable, lightweight, portable, and so much more! It comes in 3 different colors selling for less than $40 each. I love the Altieri wands because they are absorbent but can be safely used multiple times before needing to be washed (as they also dry very quickly), and their soft material ensures cleanliness in tough spots to clean while preventing scratches or other damage to my flute. These wands have helped me tremendously, making my flute look as good as new after months/years of regular use.

This premium piccolo cleaning wand, although it is made by the same brand, has some slight differences that make it perfect for cleaning piccolos. It is thinner and has a metal rod instead of a plastic rod, which comes in two connectable pieces to easily create a long rod for better cleaning. I love this cleaning wand as well as my flute one because it fits in my piccolo case, comes in the same high-quality absorbent material, and is cost-efficient. This wand can be bought for approximately $45.

  1. Flute Mouthpiece Lip Plate Pads

These transparent lip plate covers are hypoallergenic, lightweight, durable, and provide the ultimate comfort for when playing the flute! While this is a newer find for me, I use my non-slip mouthpiece pads every time I play my flute now because they are comfortable and help me to center and relax my embouchure, thus improving my tone! They are super easy to put on, adjust, and remove. This 30-pack is just $7.59 when bought on Amazon.

  1. Protec Deluxe Flute Case Cover

This nylon flute carry case has two large zipper pockets and comes with a hard handle and a shoulder strap that can support heavy weight. The material of this case helps regulate the temperature in and around your flute case, which is super important to keep it clean and playable. I am in love with my purple Protec case as it can easily hold my two flutes and piccolo (all in their cases) as well as my regular instrument cleaning supplies and extra pencils. I have owned my case for years now; it has been in the rain, mud, has been stepped on, and so much more, yet it is still in perfect condition! This case is an Amazon must-have for as low as $31.99.

  1. Lumintrail Hercules Flute/Piccolo/Clarinet Stand

This foldable woodwind instrument stand comes with three removable pegs, a cleaning cloth, and a drawstring bag. The stand can hold over 33 pounds, and the pegs are made of soft velvet to quickly absorb and dry any residue without damaging the instruments. I use my Hercules stand for almost every ensemble rehearsal - it makes it so much safer and easier to switch instruments without having to worry about something getting stepped on or knocked over. You can find this high-durability item on Amazon for less than $50!

While this list of products is a little pricier than my other blogs, these items are absolutely worth every penny!! Keep an eye out for more to come soon!

Happy Shopping!
